Use of Drones in Cyprus Ports
In the ports of Cyprus, such as Limassol Port, Zygi Port, Moni Anchorage, and Larnaca Port, specific guidelines and regulations apply to the use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). In accordance with relevant European directives and the regulations of the Cyprus Civil Aviation Authority, the present guidelines are issued to establish procedures and requirements that ensure compliance with said regulations and directives of the Cyprus Civil Aviation Authority, maintaining a high level of safety in UAS operations within the aforementioned areas.
Requirements for UAS Flights
To conduct a UAS flight in these areas, operators must follow these steps:
1. Pre-Notification: Mandatory pre-notification to the Cyprus Ports Authority (see point 2.) at least 2 (two) working days before the scheduled flight, including:
1.1 Operator's Details (Full Name, ID, contact phone number)
1.2 Valid operator license in category A2 for UAS under 4kg
1.3 UAS Operator Registration Certificate
1.4 Device Details to confirm compatibility with the license
1.5 Purpose of Flight
1.6 Flight Plan (Duration - flight area)
1.7 Third-party liability insurance coverage of €1,000,000
1.8 Approval from the respective terminal / operator (where applicable)

- Limassol Port and Anchorage, Moni Anchorage: The above requirements apply.

- Zygi Port and Anchorage: The above requirements apply, with an additional prohibition of UAS flights in specific areas (see https://drones.gov.cy/geo-zones-map/).

- Larnaca Port and Anchorage: The same requirements apply, with the need for authorization from the competent manager for flights within specific zones (see https://drones.gov.cy/geo-zones-map/).

Important Notes
- Regulatory Compliance: All flights must comply with the Civil Aviation Department regulations for UAS, including provisions for category A2 and the "Specific" category for UAS over 4kg.
- Special Cases: For flights involving state interests or naval vessels, special diplomatic permits may be required.
- Flights in the "Standard Scenarios" Category: Any application for a UAS flight permit from the Authority, especially for devices over 4kg and/or flights in the "Specific" category, must be submitted at least 10 working days before the desired flight date and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
- Insurance Coverage: The required insurance coverage must explicitly state that it covers third-party damages from the operation and use of the UAS.
